The South Torrance girls volleyball team defeated Fountain Valley in the opening round of the Lakewood/Molten Classic by the scores of 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-14. The Spartans were led in kills by senior opposite hitter Bailey Oliver, who put down 16 and added seven digs. Junior libero Abi Palompo had 12 digs and three aces and sophomore setter Kristen Fritsche had 36 assists and nine digs for South (1-0), which will play Chino Hills on Saturday in the second round.
